The Real World

A Course in Miracles reflects a non-dual spirituality, which holds that our reality lies within an undifferentiated oneness. Our experience of separation and suffering in the world therefore indicates that we are — to paraphrase the Course — dreaming of exile, though still at Home. The Course helps us awaken from the dream; however, this is not its primary goal. Instead, we are taught how to perceive the “real world.”

This video explores the nature of the real world and the steps to perceiving it. The importance of distinguishing between symbols and their source is discussed with reference to the life and work of John Ruskin, the celebrated art critic and social reformer of nineteenth-century England. A profound experience of Helen Schucman — the Course’s scribe — also sheds light on the true source of our perceptions of absolute beauty.
