Part of the ego’s ploy for keeping our attention rooted to the world (as containing both the source and solution to our insecurities) is to devise a script in which we are dependent on others for our safety and development. This is especially so for the human species.
This podcast looks at how this dependency on early figures serves as a screen onto which we project our God-issues, and how forgiveness helps us move from identification as bodies — or ‘objectification’ — to an experience of wholeness that transcends the limitations of our past.
We begin with an exploration of developmental differences between humans and other, more ‘independent,’ species and the implications of this for the centrality of the Authority Problem to our spiritual journey.
The overall discussion is based around a complete reading of the essay ‘In the Shadow of Gods: On Human Frailty and Self-Doubt’, taken from Alchemists of Suburbia: A Course in Miracles, Psychology and the Art of Integration, by Stephanie Panayi. It concludes with readings from A Course in Miracles, and an example of how we might step out from the shadows of our self-appointed gods.
