A Myth for our Time

“Often, when a new era begins in history, a myth for that era springs up simultaneously. The myth is a preview of what is to come, and it contains sage advice for coping with the psychological elements of the time.”

– Robert A. Johnson, He.

Throughout history, people have generated myths to explain ‘the way things are.’ No myth is true in the sense of factual events. They do, however, contain symbology hinting at our most profound emotional, psychological, and spiritual struggles, and suggest a pathway forward.

Different eras evoke new myths, encapsulating the zeitgeist of the times. This podcast explores the idea that “A Course in Miracles” contains a creation myth and psycho-spiritual curriculum that speaks to our era, employing psychological terminology familiar to our psychologically sophisticated age.

We look at the historical context of “A Course in Miracles,” placing its birth within a sequence of events in Western society, thus illuminating its purpose and our own potential. The podcast includes a reading of the essay ‘The Age of Communion,’ taken from “The Farthest Reaches of Inner Space: A Course in Miracles and the Postmodern World.”
